History   Oak Road Lutheran Church was founded in 1985. The group of charter members met in a variety of worship locations - among them a school cafeteria and a roller skating rink - before moving into the current building on Oak Road.  A recently completed fellowship hall added more classroom space, commercial kitchen and dining/meeting space. Oak Road is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Current pastor Rev. George E. Murdaugh
came to Oak Road Lutheran Church in 1993 after sixteen years of ministry in Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

In addition to preaching and pastoring the congregation at Oak Road, Pastor Murdaugh conducts Bible classes during the week. He is active in mission and outreach - he is North Georgia coordinator for the Committee for Asian Mission and Evangelism, contact pastor for the Lutheran Korean Outreach in Metro Atlanta, and Circuit Counselor for Circuit One of the Florida/Georgia District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod for 9 years.

Additionally, Pastor Murdaugh serves as CFO of the Chirala Medical and Educational Trust, Inc. which coordinates help for impoverished men, women and children in India's Chirala city and rural Andhra Pradesh. Pastor Murdaugh has taught and preached throughout Andhra Pradesh in support of the Chikkalas Trust, which runs Pryia Home for orphans and Baer Christian Hospital Clinic.

Pastor Murdaugh is a graduate of Holy Trinity Seminary at the University of Dallas where he earned his B. A., M. Div. and M.A.Th . He also attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He is married with three children.

Music Director Sherry Zierold has been with Oak Road since 1996. She also serves as the church's parish assistant. Prior to joining Oak Road, Sherry served as both minister of music and parish assistant at Messiah Lutheran Church, Plainfield, NJ, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Howell, NJ and Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Old Bridge, NJ. While at Good Shepherd, she also worked in the church's children's center, teaching music classes to pre-K and kindergarten classes. 


Sherry is a graduate of St. John's Lutheran College in Winfield , Kansas , where she majored in church music and parish administration. She has also attended Kindermusik Classes and hand bell classes at Westminister Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Sherry is a member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) - Atlanta Chapter. Sherry is married, mother of three children, with five grandchildren.
